2020 Fair Announcement
The organizers of the Bluemont Fair have made the difficult decision to cancel what would have been their 51st annual fair due to concerns for the health and safety of fair attendees and vendors during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Bluemont Fair, which was scheduled for September 19 & 20, 2020, has a 50 year tradition of being held regardless of weather or other extraordinary circumstances. In past years these circumstances included numerous hurricanes, copious mud, fallen trees on the main street, and loss of electricity. The fair was even held the weekend following 9/11/2001, which turned out to be a much-appreciated distraction from the sorrow and fears of the time. However, the world-wide pandemic brings too great a risk, and it has become clear that we should not be encouraging thousands of people to come together this fall under our banner. We hope you will all stay safe and healthy, and join us next year during the third weekend of September to celebrate our collective resilience!
A unique aspect of the Bluemont Fair has always been the yearly poster art competition. This year the fair theme was “Pollinators” and the winning entry was submitted by 14 year old Emma Fajans, who will be entering 9th grade at Heritage High School in the fall. Despite the circumstances, we would still like to congratulate Emma on winning our art contest with her lovely painting! Decisions regarding how to best utilize her art, a delightful drawing of a wreath decorated with bees, butterflies, flowers, and a chickadee, will be made by fair organizers in the future.
And mark your calendars for September 18 – 19, 2021! We’ll see you in Bluemont next year!
