Organizers of the 49thANNUAL BLUEMONT FAIR, to be held September 15 & 16, 2018 in historic Western Loudoun County, VA, invite artists of all ages and abilities to submit designs for consideration for this year’s logo. The theme this year is “Trains”. In its heyday Bluemont was the terminus of the Washington and Old Dominion Railroad, whose trackbed today is the popular W&OD bike trail.
Following vigorous lobbying by Bluemont’s citizens, the first train arrived on July 4, 1900 and the sleepy village quickly became a popular getaway for folks seeking relief from Washington D.C.’s summer heat and humidity. The village and nearby mountain ridge sported numerous hotels and boarding houses, and the village center was abuzz with many businesses, including the E.E. Lake Store which opened in 1901 and is still standing in newly renovated glory! The caboose which sits behind the old schoolhouse, now community center, is also getting a makeover this year. The W&OD closed its Bluemont line in the late 1930’s, falling victim to the Great Depression and the popularity of the automobile. Bluemont, however, continues to celebrate it’s colorful railroad past.
Designs should be rendered simply and with minimal color to facilitate replication on Bluemont Fair’s distinctive poster, t-shirt, mug, etc. Artists should include a brief biography for inclusion in publicity, and their contact information. The selected artist’s name will be printed on the poster and his/her work acknowledged in Fair publicity. Multiple entries from individual artists are permitted. Artwork should be mailed to: Bluemont Fair Logo/Poster Design Competition, P.O. Box 217, Bluemont, Virginia, 20135 and must be postmarked by April 4, 2018. Individuals requesting return of their submission should also include a self-addressed, stamped mailing receptacle.
